Welcome to the Virtual Observatory for Culture Equity in Academia at the University of Puerto Rico Río Piedras (VoCEA; vocea is a Spanish word meaning “to raise your voice”).  VoCEA seeks to assess critical components of the organizational culture of our institution that prevents an effective “counting” and recognition of academic women, and more broadly of a diverse academic community, their efforts, and contributions. Established through a NSF Advance Catalyst award, VoCEA is interrogating different sources of information, including in depth interviews with faculty, to provide evidence in support of affirmative actions aimed at contributing to the development, visibilization, and recognition of all members of our community regardless of their background. To catalyze organizational cultural change we are using two complimentary approaches that we refer to as our Toolkit for information retrieval and a Micro Strategic Planning effort. Both may be used in the future to promote organizational change around other important issues deemed important for our community.
